In the year 100 of our era the amphitheater of Nimes were concluded. The colony, was founded around the year 40 a. C. under the mandate of Tiberius Claudius Nero over the previously capital of the Arecomic volcas, keeping the name of Nemaussus in honor of the Gallic god to whom its sacred source (and origin of the city) was dedicated. Places such as the Arenas, the Augusteum, the Maison Carrée or the Torre Magna are emblems of one of the largest cities in Gaul, although it never fully built the 220 hectares protected behind its more than 6 kilometers of walls.
