Timgad

Founded around the year 100 by the Emperor Trajan as a bastion against the Berbers, Timgad is a clear example of urban grid planning.

After the seventh century, it was abandoned and buried by the desert, remaining forgotten until its excavation in 1881 and allowing a great degree of preservation
